Yearly Activities

The Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Race

This is an annual 120 mile foot relay race from Baker, CA to Las Vegas, NV through the town of Pahrump, NV usually run in early April. It is a multi jurisdictional police officer and support groups race. There are usually 200 or more teams of 10 runners each and their support groups, that traverse the course through hot or cold weather and rain, hail or possibly snow and through the desert valley's and through mountains to win the trophy each year.

    The Annual "ARRL" Field Day

JUNE 26-27, 2010

Field Day is generally a time for "HAM's" to make a concentrated effort to work as many other stations as they can within a 24 hour period over the third weekend of June. They still have their fun with others of their group with picnics. Those that can setup and work in an area where the public can drop in and maybe a town official or two may drop by to see what's going on.

This year’s Field Day will be held at the Nye County Emergency Operations Center, 1510 Siri Lane. We will be operating from 12:00 pm on Saturday through 12:00 pm on Sunday. Stop by and join in the fun!

 The Pony Express Trail Ride
in conjunction with the POW-WOW.

Back in the days of the real "Pony Express" they did not have radio communications to help them out if a horse came up lame or the Indians were watching them, they had no way to get assistance if they needed it. Now we help them out by getting a trailer to them if they need to transport a horse or if some rider comes up ill, and we can let the people at the end of the course know where they are on the course.

 The Pahrump Fall Festival Parade

The Pahrump Fall Festival has the usual parade that many towns have for there end of summer and of course a good share of them have the assistance of Amateur Radio Operators to help set-up and keep track of the parade participants, in case of any problems.

Yes there is always the possibility that since the parade is on the main highway in town that the emergency equipment may have to go through the parade to get where they need to get to, and we may have to clear a way for them to get there.
